Software made to be owned.

Luktor Labs is a small family workshop in Ontario. We make tools you pay for once, run on your own machines, and keep.

A through dovetail joint, its two boards drawn apart along the one direction in which they fit together.61
A through dovetail, drawn apart. It goes together one way only.

What we make

LexTribunalis

Early access. One diocesan tribunal in Ontario uses it.

Case management for diocesan marriage tribunals. It tracks causes, time limits, acts, letters and decrees, and counts the figures for the annual reports. It runs on the tribunal's own server, and the tribunal receives the source code.

Beat Your Bot at Chess

Being readied as a bot on Lichess. Not live yet.

A chess player in the style of Paul Morphy. It sees only a few moves ahead and remembers what it was doing. It never throws a game on a roll of the dice, so when you beat it, you beat a player. Each move it makes comes with the moves it passed over, and why.

The Teacher

A design. Not yet a product.

A sparring partner for chess academies. It would play for what the student can learn, not to win. Its hints would ask rather than tell, and its reviews would not give the answers away. Its aim is to send students on to human sparring partners.

Come and C

Working. Not yet offered.

A pair programmer for people learning C. It never writes code for you. After each save it asks one question, pitched to what you already know, in the habits of a master programmer. Your work stays on your own machine.

On the bench

Research. Not a product.

We also do research. One project turns testimony into claims a person can check against the record. It answers questions of fact and never decides.

How we work

You own your tools. You buy a licence once. There is no annual fee and nothing to rent. When an update comes out, you decide whether to buy it.

It runs on your machines. Your records stay in your custody, in formats you can open without us. What you buy does not need us to keep running.

Every result is explained. A deadline names the canon it comes from. A figure in an annual report traces back to its causes. A chess move comes with the moves it passed over. Nothing is a black box.

A carpentry shop. We call this a carpentry shop, and we mean it plainly. A carpenter is paid for the making. You order a table, he builds it, and it is yours. Sometimes a patron pays for the making and the work is given away. We work the same way. We are two people, Richard Verver and his father, with friends brought in when a job needs them. We mean to stay small and do good work.

Work with us

Commissions. Need a tool made? Tell us what it is for and who will use it. We will put the price and the scope in writing. You pay for the making. The tool is yours to keep.

Academies. If you run a chess academy, the Teacher is meant for you. It is still a design, so now is the time to talk. Tell us how your students train. It would be licensed once and run on your own machines.

Tribunals. See lextribunalis.com. Demonstrations are free, by video call, with no obligation. Prices are quoted in writing after a demonstration, and early users pay less.
